PROJECTS:

Unfortunately, I am unable to share work from my current employment experience at ExteNet Systems, Inc., as this information is proprietary, however, these projects from educational and internship experiences will provide a framework for the advancement of my skills in GIS.

I chose Lake Chad for my capstone research project for the GIS Master's Program.  I have done smaller projects on Lake Chad in the past, and I chose to do my capstone project on Lake Chad as well as it relates to the reason why I was interested in GIS in the first place, which is being able to use technology to better understand phenomenon experienced on earth, and also using it to help drive decisions pertaining to said phenomena.

I am participated in a graduate internship through the Elmhurst College Master's in GIS program.  I utilized my current employer, ExteNet Systems, Inc., and I focused on learning a new skillset revolving around Fiber Engineering principles and concepts.  This internship led to a role change within my company where I became a Fiber Engineer within the group.

For the ISGS Statemap Series 2014 I was responsible for basemap compilation and creation for the maps listed below.  I did most or all of the graphics work on the maps prepared for 2014.  Basemap layers consist of any type of visible data that isn't a contour, geologic unit, or contact line.

For the ISGS Statemap Series 2013 I was responsible for creating and/or editing GIS data, tabular field attribution of the GIS data, GMDM geodatabase management, and basemap creation for the maps listed below. Work on the 2013 Statemap Series was much more fluid as I had a firm grasp of the techniques and procedures that needed to be done to complete the maps.

For the ISGS Statemap Series 2012 I was responsible for creating and/or editing GIS data, tabular field attribution of the GIS data, GMDM geodatabase management, and basemap creation for the maps listed below.  As an intern I expanded my experience with ArcGIS to a whole new level, as well as gained extensive experience with the use of the Adobe Creative Suite for graphics editing and map production.

This project contains a compilation of maps that I created while in my advanced GIS course at Eastern Illinois University.  They show a progression of learning with more complicated processes being involved as the semester progressed.  These maps are ordered in order of their completion, with the most recent one at the bottom.

While working under Dr. Barry Kronenfeld I was tasked with compiling data from journals of over 40 different types of Apis Cerana (Asian Honey bee) into a database, which was then imported into ArcGIS.  I created a cartographic scheme for all different types of honeybee and created a final map to be used in a joint publication between Dr. Kronenfeld and various other scientists and professors from China.

Via LinkedIn profile recommendation in response to my work as a GIS Tutor and Research Assistant:
"Coy has an excellent understanding of the integration of GIS and relational databases, and is always diligent and professional. He helped clean and organize a very messy GIS-relational database, and discovered and corrected numerous errors during the process that many people would have missed. I highly recommend him."

- Dr. Barry Kronenfeld, Assistant Professor of GIS, Eastern Illinois University.

Via LinkedIn profile recommendation in response to my work as a Teacher's Assistant:
"Coy is dedicated, driven worker. His attention to detail and commitment to quality are exceptional. He is a team player, but has a noteworthy ability to deliver results independently without micromanagement. I highly recommend his abilities and work ethic."

- Dr. David Viertel, Professor of Geography and Geology, Eastern Illinois University.

Via LinkedIn profile recommendation in response to my work as a GIS Intern:
"Coy is very comfortable working with GIS and spatial geodatabases and works diligently to complete projects quickly and efficiently. He is always eager to learn new GIS and graphics techniques and apply them as they are needed. Coy has been a great asset to our mapping program at ISGS and his positive attitude and interactions with others have been enjoyed by the mapping staff. I highly recommend Coy for his GIS skills and dependability as an employee."
